Margem
Sul is a project about the visual traces of diffuse urbanisation. On
the far side of the Tagus, facing Lisbon, the area I inhabited for a
long time is made up of places where buildings - uneven and at times
contradictory - coexist without a shared plan. A space in which
anonymous, indifferent structures, commonplace in the omnipresence of
their façades, are scattered among vacant lots, semi-urban zones,
and abandoned industrial areas. A territory, like so many others,
multiform, unstable, and in constant redefinition.
Between cobblestone, asphalt, and dirt tracks, Margem Sul unfolds from an imaginary landscape shaped by proximity and friction. An imaginary in which the aridity of the ground merges with the roughness of surfaces, and where insistent light renders visible the wear of time and the processes of transformation.
